Berrettini, Wade, Dr. NCBI. U.S. National Library of Medicine, Nov.-Dec. 2004. Web. 05 Nov. 2013.

This article is a credible source that I am using because it was written by a well-educated author who has been published many times. His credentials include a PhD in Psychiatry as well as an M.D. This article was published in 2004, however the information is still up to par. The author’s main goal in this article is to inform us that through studies that were done by geneticists, genes can influence if not cause the eating disorders that we suffer from today. The publishing source for this article would generally fit audience member who suffer from an eating disorder, know someone who has, or are interested in this field of study. Many people would be interested in this information because 10%-15% of Americans are currently suffering from an Eating disorder, and some of those people won’t even share that information with anyone. They would have mixed opinions of this articles topic because many people would want more evidence. They see eating disorders as something that society has done to people and not something that genes have done, but the can also not ignore facts of an imbalance of serotonin in the brain which may cause Anorexia Nervosa. The author incorporates evidence such as heredity, imbalance of chemicals in brain, psychopathology (substance abuse), depression and anxiety disorders. He is using all of these issues that are true today and showing how they can all cause or stem from having an eating disorder. This evidence builds credibility because of the many studies done on depression and anorexia living together, but it is also limited because some people don’t believe that a symptom of depression is having an eating disorder. Based on my own opinion, experience, and research I can agree with this author because of his knowledge on the subject and his statistics on the heredity of eating disorders. I think this article would be important to include in my essay because no matter what the audience thinks, it is a relative debate on my topic.

  1. J, I'm impressed with the overall quality of the sources you're citing so far. Also, your citations indicate you understand the content of your sources despite heavy technical vocabulary and expertise outside of your experience. I'm looking forward to reading your final essay on this intriguing topic.
